calculated at the rate of one month's salary for each
completed year of service or 12 months' salary whichever
sum is the less.
(4) Emoluments.
The mistress will be appointed on a three years
agreement at a salary of £360 for the first, £380 for the
second and £400 for the third year.
If the mistress's services during her initial
three years' agreement have been completely satisfactory
she will, on the expiration of that period, be placed on
the permanent and pensionable establishment, subject to the
exigencies of the service and to her being medically fit.
Her salary will then continue to rise by annual increments
of £20 to £700 a year.
For the purposes of local payment in the
Colony the sterling salary is at present converted into
Hong Kong dollars at rates fixed from time to time by the
Hong Kong Government. The rate fixed for the present
is the current rate of Exchange, subject to a maximum of
2/- and a minimum of 1/- to the dollar.
Mistresses may undertake private tuition,
subject to the permission of the Director of Education.
(5) Quarters or Rent allowance. Free partially furnished
quarters will be granted, if available, or a rent allowance
in lieu thereof of £50 a month.
(6) Passages. A free First Class passage is provided on first
appointment. If the agreement is not renewed upon its
expiration a return passage will be provided.
(7) Leave.
Ordinarily a mistress in the Hong Kong Education
Department is eligible for 8 months leave on full pay and
a free return passage after four years' resident service.
(8) Pensions. The present rule as to superannuation is that,
an officer holding a pensionable appointment may be allowed
